Going to start putting together a list of my favorite podcast episodes I’ve listened to in the past month. Here’s what I’ve got for January 2019.
Show: On Being With Krista Tippett
Episode: Maira Kalman – Daily Things to Fall in Love With
On Being is consistently great, and this episode with Maira Kalman was no different. Kalman is a writer and illustrator known for her New Yorker covers. The main thing I took from this episode is to slow down. Kalman reminded me that there’s never any reason to be in a rush, any lack of things to look at, or any reason to ignore a conversation. I loved her love for the every day things many of us overlook.

Show: Out on the Wire
Episode 1: Eureka
Out on the Wire is a show about making stories, step by step. It’s hosted by cartoonist Jessica Abel (who has a great blog as well). In episode one, she speaks with Ira Glass and Alex Bloomberg from This American Life and Gimlet Media, respectively. She lays out the theme of the show, which ran for nine episodes in 2015. This show is great for giving some order to the creative process.

Show: This is Actually Happening
Episode: What if you uncovered the family secret?
This is Jaclyn Baxter’s story about discovering her identity. It’s riveting, and I don’t want to ruin it for you. If you have an hour, give it a listen.
Show: The Joe Rogan Experience
Episode #1236 – Jack Dorsey
A really cool episode if you’re into Twitter or AI. Listening to Dorsey talk about Twitter’s process for evaluating hate speech, and whether or not to take action against it, was very interesting. It all begs so many more questions so I hope Joe will have him back on the show soon. He comes off as much more trustworthy than some of the other major technology founders (ahem Mark Zuckerberg).
