2020 is here and I’ve had ample time to reflect on how I’d like the year to go. After reviewing 2019, I think I have a solid understanding of what I’d like to accomplish this year. Here’s a quick look at what I’ll be working on in 2020.
1. Work goals
Grow Something Great’s blog traffic
I have a number in mind that I’ve written down and I’m going to achieve this by writing blogs and working on my website’s SEO. I’m going to aim to publish a new article every Wednesday and Saturday.
Grow The Ad Spot to 1,000 subscribers
I’m looking to double the reach of my company newsletter. This will take a combination of general marketing tactics and writing. I’ll devote time to this task before and after writing the newsletter on Thursdays.
2. Health Goals
Weigh less
I have a specific number in mind. My plan is to accomplish this by following the two goals below. I believe if I can accomplish them, this will take care of itself.
Eat better
I heard Dr. Valter Longo on Dr. Rhonda Patrick’s podcast and picked up a copy of his book at the library. For longevity, he recommends eating a pescetarian diet with limited dairy – most of my calories will come from nuts, oils, and vegetables. It seems like a very reasonable way of eating and so far, 13 days in – I’m loving it.
Go to the gym every Monday and Thursday
I’m really going to try to make this a must this year. I grew my newsletter last year by committing to writing every Thursday – I think I can do the same with my workouts.
3. Personal Goals
Go for a walk everyday
People who live the longest walk an average of one hour every day, so I’d like to establish this as a habit, but it’s really important to me personally for two other reasons. First, I work in a room with no windows, and getting outside is crucial to me not going crazy. Second, I know that long walks help spark my creativity. My best ideas come to me on the road and in the rain. To quantify this, I’d like to go for 300 walks this year, so it’s not every day, but almost.
Two quotes come to mind when I think about this goal.
“Demons hate fresh air.”
-Ingmar Berman
“Go out and walk. That is the glory of life.”
-Maira Kalman
Writing
I want this to be the year I finally start writing a story. It could be a short story or the beginning of a book, it doesn’t matter to me. I have so many ideas that I’d love to get on paper.
4. Mini Goals
These are the goals that won’t get as much attention from me, but I expect to get accomplished based on my daily habits.
Quit artificial sweeteners (In particular, in my coffee)
Meditate 1,000 minutes
Read 30 books
Continue to live tobacco-free (I’ve already kicked this habit but staying clear of tobacco is of the utmost importance to my health, so I’ll always add it here).
Here’s to a great year.
